An editor with a decade of experience working across Europe

Howard has worked as a journalist, editor and press officer in five European countries and has over 10 years’ experience in the EU and UN contexts. Beyond writing for magazines in Belgium and Italy, he has drafted 100 reports for the European Social Fund and various brochures for EU summits and strategies.

Over the last decade Howard has translated around 250,000 words from Italian, French and Spanish, including press materials for the Mayor of Rome, European Parliament and '6 billion others' project. He has also drafted a bilingual Corporate Social Responsibility report for Air France-KLM.


Howard began a research doctorate at the University of Bologna in early 2005, which he later deferred for a career in communications. He was a press officer at Amnesty International HQ from 2007-08, working on the 'Counter Terror With Justice' campaign. In 2009-10 he was editor at the European Journalism Centre, where he focused on science journalism. For this he was invited to speak at the 2011 World Conference of Science Journalists in Qatar.

He edits articles and theses on international development for the Universities of Antwerp, Ghent and Maastricht, and for this he has travelled through Africa, Asia and the Middle East. His photographs have featured in several magazines and websites including the Encyclopædia Britannica.

Since January 2011 Howard has run the press office at United Nations University-MERIT, a UN research and training centre and top five global think tank. He also gives training courses on 'Writing for the Internet' at the European Institute of Public Administration.
